Why pool decks need different pressure than driveways
A driveway is poured concrete built to take a truck. A pool deck is often Kool Deck, a thin acrylic-cement coating troweled over a slab to stay cool under bare feet. Hit that with a 3,000 PSI tip and you tear the coating right off.
We run a 25-degree tip at roughly 1,200 PSI on Kool Deck, holding the wand about 12 inches off the surface. For exposed aggregate, the kind with the pebble finish you see around La Costa pools, we open up to 2,500 PSI because the stone takes it.
Stamped concrete sits in the middle. We keep it near 1,500 PSI and we never sit in one spot.
What grows on a shaded San Diego pool deck
Chlorine splash, sunscreen, and shade are the three things we fight. The north side of a deck, the part a fence or hedge keeps in shadow, grows a black algae film that gets slick when wet. We have watched homeowners slip on it.
That film needs a sodium hypochlorite pre-treat, not just pressure. We let it dwell about ten minutes, then rinse. Pressure alone smears it.

How long does a pool deck take?
A standard 400 square foot deck takes us about 90 minutes. Add a spa surround or a long pebble walkway down to a canyon-lot pool and it stretches past two hours.
