South Park housing stock is mostly 1910s to 1930s Craftsman with painted wood siding, plus a run of 1920s stucco bungalows on the blocks off Beech and Dale. Neither surface takes 3,000 PSI. We have replaced enough gouged fascia boards on other people's jobs to be blunt about that.

Why South Park siding gets dirty the way it does

Two things drive it. The marine layer parks over the 30th Street ridge most mornings from May through July and keeps north-facing walls damp until almost noon, which is exactly what algae needs. And the canopy is heavy. Mature ficus and jacaranda along Fern and Juniper drop sap and organic litter all summer.

The result is a green-black film that shows up on north and east elevations first while the sunny south wall still looks fine. Homeowners usually call us when the two sides stop matching.
